5 Steps to develop your Meditation Routine

Meditation is an ancient tradition that should be incorporated in modern times.


By following the steps below, you too can easily succeed in becoming an excellent meditator.


Step 1:

HAVE A CLEAR IDEA OF WHAT YOU WANT TO PRACTISE

It is important to know which specific technique you want to do before you start your practice. It may sound obvious, but as we have a vast archive of techniques, it's common to see students spending time trying to decide what to do, and this can be confusing.

Step 2:

STICK TO THE SAME TECHNIQUE FOR A CERTAIN LENGTH OF TIME

Our brain loves distractions, so it's natural to want to try a different technique every day. However, in reality, to have the best result you have to stick to the same technique for a certain period of time, training your brain in that specific exercise. Keep your instructor informed of your progress, and he/she can then upgrade your practice when necessary.


Step 3:

KEEP A JOURNAL TO WRITE DOWN YOUR EXPERIENCES

As meditation develops, it brings into the consciousness the subtleties from our bodies, feelings and sensations. These are often things not perceived in regular situations.

Therefore, making these sensations tangible will generate experiences that many times will make sense only during that period of meditation. It is those insights which need to be grabbed in the moment and put on paper. They will become of use in your life, and in addition, you can use the notes to track your progress. This will also aid you in fine tuning the techniques you use in the future.

Step 4:

DEVELOP A ROUTINE

You will respond better to meditation once you develop a regular routine. Practise meditation regardless of how you feel, don't just wait for the 'need' of practising to sit down and meditate. Dedicate a time for it on your agenda, and ideally, always practise at the same time.

Step 5:

CHOOSE ONE SPECIAL PLACE TO ALWAYS MEDITATE IN

See your meditation as a sacred routine and not just a mundane habit.

Privacy and quietness are essential for the effective practice of mediation and breathwork.

To enhance the experience and feel more invited to meditate, use tricks such as low lighting, calming music and soothing aromas.

Spend a few minutes preparing the environment before you settle into your practice.
